Inkwell PDF — Privacy Policy
Effective date:
Developer: RaK Team
Privacy and support contact: inkwell@rakxd.cc
This policy explains how Inkwell PDF, the browser extension for viewing, filling, signing, editing, organizing and converting PDF files, handles information. “We” and “our” refer to the developer identified above.
1. Overview
Inkwell works on your device. Your documents, their contents and your signatures are never uploaded to us or to anyone else. You do not need an account to use Inkwell. We do not operate a server that receives your documents or your usage.
The only online service Inkwell contacts on its own is ExtensionPay (extensionpay.com), which sells and verifies Inkwell Pro and its free trial. Inkwell also downloads a PDF from a website when you ask it to open that PDF. Both are described below.
2. Your documents
All PDF processing happens locally in your browser, using code bundled with the extension. This includes viewing, filling forms, signing, editing the PDF’s own text, find and replace, redaction, page tools, compression, OCR (text recognition, with language models included in the extension) and conversions such as PDF to Word or HTML, Markdown, CSV and text to PDF. When you download a result, it is saved directly to your computer.
If you open a password-protected PDF and add new text, signatures or images, or change its pages, the downloaded copy is saved without password protection. Filling in form fields and editing the PDF’s own text keep the original protection.
3. Information stored on your device
In the browser’s local extension storage, on this device only:
- Saved signatures: signatures you choose to keep (Pro feature).
- Pro status: a cached copy of whether Pro or a free trial is active, and when the trial ends, so Pro works offline.
- Preferences: interface language, tool colors, display options and whether PDFs from the web open in Inkwell.
In the extension’s own database (IndexedDB), on this device only:
- Unsaved work: an automatic copy of the document you are working on while it has unsaved changes, so your work can be restored if the tab closes. It is deleted when you download the PDF or choose “Discard”.
- Recent files: the last few PDFs you opened (up to 6, each under 40 MB), so you can reopen them from the home screen.
In the browser’s sync extension storage, which Chrome copies to your other browsers if Chrome sync is on:
- Free edit count: how many free text edits you have used today (a date and a number).
- ExtensionPay record: described in section 4.
4. Purchases and free trial (ExtensionPay)
Inkwell uses ExtensionPay to sell and verify Pro. Payments are processed by ExtensionPay and Stripe, which handle your payment details under their own privacy policies. Inkwell never receives your card details.
To check whether Pro or a trial is active, the extension contacts extensionpay.com with an anonymous key created at installation. ExtensionPay keeps the following in the browser’s sync extension storage:
- that key and the installation date;
- the account record ExtensionPay returns: payment status, plan, payment and trial dates, and the email address you entered at checkout or when starting a free trial.
Inkwell includes ExtensionPay’s script on extensionpay.com pages only, so the extension learns when a purchase or trial is confirmed there. ExtensionPay and Stripe receive your IP address and ordinary request information when the extension or your browser contacts them. See ExtensionPay and Stripe’s privacy policy for their practices.
Removing the extension does not cancel a subscription or delete your purchase record at ExtensionPay. You can manage your subscription from Inkwell’s Pro button, and request deletion of your purchase record through the contact above.
5. Website access
If you ask Inkwell to open a PDF from a website, the extension asks for permission to access that site, so it can download the PDF you chose. That download goes directly from the website to your browser; the website receives the same information as any normal download, such as your IP address.
If you turn on “Open PDFs from the web in Inkwell” in Settings, Inkwell asks for access to all sites and redirects links to PDF files into the editor. The rule is removed when you turn the setting off. Site access is not used for anything else: Inkwell does not read the pages you visit or your browsing history.
6. Analytics, advertising and sharing
Inkwell does not use analytics, tracking or advertising. We do not sell, rent or share your information, do not use it for purposes unrelated to Inkwell’s features, and do not use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
7. Support inquiries
If you contact us at inkwell@rakxd.cc, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send. We use it only to respond, investigate problems and handle privacy requests. Please do not send documents with sensitive content or payment-card details unless we ask for a sample needed to fix a problem.
8. Retention and deletion
Data stored on your device remains until you delete it in Inkwell (remove a saved signature, or download or discard unsaved work), newer files replace older ones in the recent list, you clear the extension’s data, or you remove the extension. Removing the extension deletes its local and sync storage from the browser.
We retain support correspondence only as long as needed to resolve your inquiry and meet legal or security obligations. ExtensionPay and Stripe retain purchase records under their own policies; contact us to request deletion of your ExtensionPay record.
9. Security
Because documents are processed locally, they are not exposed to transmission or to a developer server. Connections to ExtensionPay use HTTPS. Data on your device is protected by your browser and operating system; anyone with access to your browser profile may be able to see recent files or unsaved work. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
10. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of your personal information, restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent. Contact us about information we or ExtensionPay hold on your behalf. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
11. Children’s privacy
Inkwell is not directed at children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information through a purchase or support request, please contact us so we can address it.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this policy when Inkwell’s features, service providers or data practices change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
